How To Introduce Yourself?

Start with Basic Information (Name & Greeting)
When introducing yourself, always begin with a polite greeting and your full name. In a formal situation, use greetings like “Good morning,” “Good afternoon,” or “Hello.” For example: “Good morning, my name is Sarah Putri.” In an informal situation, you can simply say: “Hi, I’m Sarah.” This first part helps people recognize who you are and sets a good tone for the conversation.

Mention Your Background (Age, Origin, Education/Job)
After stating your name, explain a little about your background. You can mention where you come from, your age (optional), and what you do—whether you’re a student or a worker. For example: “I am from Bukittinggi, and I am currently a university student majoring in Informatics.” In a work setting: “I graduated from SMA Negeri 1 and now I work as an administrative assistant.” This information gives the listener a simple picture of your identity.

Talk About Your Skills, Interests, or Experience
The next step is to talk about your strengths, skills, or hobbies. In formal situations like job interviews, focus on skills: “I have good communication skills and I enjoy working in a team.” But in informal introductions, you can share hobbies: “I like playing badminton and learning new languages.” Sharing this helps others connect with you and understand what you are passionate about.

Closing the Introduction (Purpose & Thank You)
Finish your introduction with a clear closing statement. In formal contexts, mention your purpose: “I’m excited to be here and I hope to contribute positively to this team.” For informal situations, keep it simple: “Nice to meet you, and I look forward to getting to know you all.” Don’t forget to end with “Thank you.” A proper closing shows confidence and politeness.
